As Associate Program Director in the Economic Growth Program, Samuel Sherraden conducts original research and writing on macroeconomic policy and manages operations of the program.
Mr. Sherraden focuses on macroeconomic policy issues such as global imbalances, China’s economy, public infrastructure investment, and energy. He is the lead author of the Current Account Surplus Watch, the first index of countries that run large current account surpluses that also takes into account the policy measures countries take to reduce these surpluses. He has also contributed significantly to research on the benefits of public infrastructure investment, renewable energy as a potential engine for job creation during the Great Recession, and China’s currency policy.
Mr. Sherraden’s work has been discussed and published in national and international media, including CNN, Fox Business, Voice of America China Broadcast, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, and Forbes. Before joining the New America Foundation, Mr. Sherraden attended George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in East Asian Studies. He has lived several years in East Asia and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
