As a technologist at New America Foundation's Open Technology Institute, Brian develops disruptive, community-focused technologies and organizes community structures with the capacity to control technologies. His current projects include developing the Commotion mesh wireless platform and deploying the platform in Washington DC, Detroit, and Urbana IL.

Brian previously served in AmeriCorps as the Technical Projects Developer at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center. At UCIMC, he co-founded Makerspace Urbana, started a mesh wireless reading group, founded a participatory computer help desk, and organized Urbana-Champaign's inaugural Mini Maker Faire.

Prior to joining AmeriCorps and UCIMC, Brian worked in software development in the private sector for several years.
