Dr. Lucy Berhnolz was a HAND Foundation Philanthropy Fellow until early 2011. As a fellow she analyzed key trends in the philanthropy sector, with a focus on the reforms and regulations that will determine its future. She is also currently writing a book on the "giving commons."
Dr. Bernholz is the Founder and President of Blueprint Research & Design, Inc., a strategy consulting firm that provides research and design services for philanthropic grantmaking organizations in several countries. She is also the publisher of Philanthropy 2173, a blog dedicated to the business of giving. Dr. Bernholz is a noted analyst of the philanthropic industry and has published numerous articles in the trade and general press, edited collections, and scholarly journals. Her most recent book, Creating Philanthropic Capital Markets: The Deliberate Evolution, was published by John Wiley & Sons in 2004.
Dr. Bernholz is on the Advisory Boards of Alliance Magazine, FasterCures Philanthropy Advisory Service, the National Philanthropic Trust, the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equality, and YouthGive. In addition, she is an Advisory Fellow of the Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy at the University of Southern California and a visiting scholar at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. She earned her B.A. from Yale University and holds a M.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University.
