As Senior Policy Analyst for the Education Policy Program at the New America Foundation, Heather Rieman focuses on educational excellence and equity, with a particular emphasis on budget and finance issues across all levels of education.
Ms. Rieman holds a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor’s degree cum laude from Tufts University. She was named a 2001 Presidential Management Fellow and worked at the U.S. Department of Education as a program and policy analyst in the budget office. For part of her fellowship, Ms. Rieman worked on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee for Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA). She is also Co-Director and founder of a nonprofit organization, Critical Exposure, which combines the power of documentary photograph and youth voices to improve equity and excellence in public education.
