Ms. Stuhldreher is a former senior policy fellow with the California program at the New America Foundation. She advances innovations in local economic empowerment, civic engagement and public interest journalism.

Ms. Stuhldreher has a distinguished track record of working with public officials to create public private partnerships that financially empower lower income residents. In San Francisco, she brings people together to initiate and launch initiatives like: Bank on San Francisco (that spurs banks to create starter accounts for the estimated one in five Americans who don’t have them); the Working Families Credit, and Kindergarten to College. As a Senior Policy Advisor to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver, she helped start the WE Connect Campaign and Bank on California. The “Bank on” strategy that Ms. Stuhldreher conceived is being replicated in dozens of cities and inspired the Obama Administration’s Bank on USA initiative.

Ms. Stuhldreher recently launched My Life Is True to help people from the economic margins share their personal stories. My Life Is True works with people to explain, in their own words, a significant moment or a stubborn problem in their lives. All stories have been recorded and produced by KQED's Perspectives and aired in Northern California during NPR's Morning Edition.

Ms Stuhldreher also authors op-eds and articles in outlets such as the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and the Stanford Social Innovation Review. She advises a wide range of elected officials, and works with financial institutions, community organizations, and philanthropic foundations. Formerly, Ms. Stuhldreher worked at the Ford Foundation, and was the Associate Director of Opportunity Fund, a Community Development Financial Institution in Northern California.

Previously, Ms. Stuhldreher was named Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Center for Venture Philanthropy. She was recently named an Innovation Fellow by the California Endowment.  She lives in San Francisco.
