Open Technology Initiative Welcomes Sarah Morris as Policy Analyst

Published:   March 15, 2011

The New America Foundation’s Open Technology Initiative today welcomed Sarah Morris as the program’s newest Policy Analyst. Morris previously served as a Google Policy Fellow with the Media Access Project, where she assisted with research and drafting of FCC comments on issues including media ownership, the open Internet and broadcast licensing. She earned a B.A. in Poltical Science and English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a J.D. and LL.M. in Space and Telecommunications Law from the University of Nebraska College of Law, completing her thesis on privacy and security concerns related to Smart Grid technology.

“Sarah’s experience with emerging technologies -- whether smart grids or satellite communications -- and the privacy and security concerns these new systems raise, are a great asset to the OTI team,” explained Sascha Meinrath, Director of the New America Foundation’s Open Technology Initiative. “We are excited to add a legal expert with experience working both with our public interest allies and new technologies.”

Morris added: “I am thrilled to join the New America team, and I am impressed with the energy and dedication of the staff in the Open Technology Initiative, as well as the program’s commitment to bringing affordable, open technologies to all communities.”
