CRFB provides House Budget Committee testimony on budget reforms and the bailout package
Testifying on budget process reform
yesterday on behalf of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget before
the House Budget Committee, CRFB President Maya MacGuineas presented an idea to
use any and all future revenues recouped from the bailout package only for
paying down the government debt.
Mrs. MacGuineas also urged lawmakers to use this crisis as an opportunity to
come together to deal with the nation's fiscal crisis. In a bipartisan meeting
she hosted with 45 lawmakers, alternative plans for dealing with the financial
meltdown were discussed, as were concerns about the effect on the budget
deficit.
Mrs. MacGuineas is available to comment, and a link to her September 25
testimony is posted online at http://www.newamerica.net/publications/resources/2008/testimony_maya_macguineas_budget_process_reform.
Based in DC, Mrs. MacGuineas is also director of the Fiscal Policy Program at
the New America Foundation. She runs US Budget Watch, a project designed to increase
awareness of the important fiscal issues facing the country, through and beyond
the election. To arrange an interview with Maya MacGuineas, please call Erin
