Mark Huelsman

Asset Building Program, College Savings Initiative
As Program Associate in the College Savings Initiative, Mark Huelsman researches and promotes policy ideas to make 529 college savings plans more progressive and accessible to low-income populations. In addition, he helps to support the initiative’s communications and operations. Mr. Huelsman previously served as Program Associate to the Asset Building Program at New America, where he helped promote policy ideas with respect to savings and asset ownership for low-and-moderate income families, with a particular emphasis on retirement savings policy.
Prior to joining New America, Mr. Huelsman was Legislative Assistant at the Retirement Security Project – a joint venture between the Brookings Institution and Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute focusing on automatic retirement savings, asset limit reform, and other policy initiatives to improve retirement security for lower-and-moderate income families. Mr. Huelsman holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics as well as a Scholars Citation in International Studies from the University of Maryland.
