Jorge Castañeda was Mexico's Foreign Minister from 2000 to 2003 and is currently a professor at New York University. Mr. Castañeda is a prolific author and political commentator, writing a column for Mexico City's Reforma newspaper as well as Newsweek International. He has been published in an array of other publications including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Foreign Affairs and newspapers throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Last year, he published Ex Mex: From Migrants to Immigrants, a survey of U.S. immigration policy. Previous books include Utopia Unarmed: The Latin American Left after the Cold War and Compañero: The Life and Death of Che Guevara. Mr. Castañeda is a Mexican public intellectual with a rare understanding of both American and South American politics and culture.
During his fellowship at New America he will focus on prescribing a roadmap for more fruitful U.S.-Latin American relations.
