Human Resources Associate

The New America Foundation seeks a proactive self-starter to assist in the day-to-day human resources management of the organization. This position reports to the Deputy Director of Human Resources and Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Help in the recruitment process of staff and intern positions including drafting job descriptions, job posting, screening and interviewing applicants, and coordinating interview schedules.
  • Perform new hire orientations and ensure new employees and fellows are mainstreamed into the organization.
  • Administer organization’s semimonthly payroll including keeping abreast of changing labor and benefit laws.
  • Assist in the administration of benefits for new and current employees. Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, a 403B retirement plan, and health/dependent care FLEX accounts.
  • Perform additional operational duties as needed including periodic front desk coverage and maintaining office procedures.
  • Manage New America’s internship program.
  • Support the general operations of the organization in a number of other ways, and help maintain a strong organizational culture.

Qualifications

  • Previous administrative or human resources work experience.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels and across all departments.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to be a proactive thinker and act independently.
  • An impeccable attention to detail is a must.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Professional, friendly, and enthusiastic personality.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and email/internet programs.
  • Knowledge of, and/or interest in, public policy issues preferred.
