New America NYC: A New Lens on Teaching

In Collaboration with Chalkbeat New York

Nearly every state and school district is working to improve how teachers are evaluated. Districts are experimenting with new tools to observe teachers in action, new ways to measure how well a teacher taught her students, and other methods to gauge how effective a teacher is at her job. But debates abound on how best to identify teachers who have the greatest impact on their students’ learning.

New York City is no different. Halfway into a bumpy school year with a brand new evaluation system, teachers and principals have real-time insights about what has worked so far and what still needs revision.

New America NYC and Chalkbeat New York are joining forces to highlight those insights with a unique event about teacher quality. Two South Bronx educators will discuss the new evaluation system and share video clips to show how they are using technology to support the classroom observation process.
