New America NYC: Breakfast Conversation with Women Leaders of the Arab Spring

In honor of International Women's Day please join New America NYC for a breakfast conversation featuring women who played key roles in transforming the Middle East during the Arab Spring. All of the participating women are part of Karama, an organization working to end violence against women across the Middle East and North Africa. These social and political leaders from Syria, Jordan, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia represent the groundswell of change that began in the region over two years ago and continues to play out today. 


Mouna Ghanem
Deputy to the President of the Building the Syrian State opposition movement; Coordinator and Co-founder, Syrian Women Making Peace Platform in Syria. 

Haifa Abu Ghazaleh
Minister of Tourism in Jordan; Appointed by His Majesty King Abdullah to serve as senator to the Jordanian Upper House of Parliament and H.E Queen Rania Al Abdullah to serve as the Secretary General at the National Council for Family Affairs.

Amal Basha
Human Rights from Yemen; Elected member of the Revolutionary Council and served as Spokesperson for National Dialogue Committee.

Zahra Langhi
Gender Specialist, Civil Society Strategist and Political Activist from Libya; Co-founder of Libyan Women’s Platform for Peace

Hibaaq Osman
Global Political Strategist from Somalia; Serves on boards for the Advisory Council for Omega Women’s Leadership Center and UN Women’s Global Civil Society Advisory Group.
