Why act now?

Because families will soon begin making college planning decisions for academic year 2009-10, and instability in the credit markets should not allowed to influence decisions regarding whether to apply or where to apply.

Anxiety over whether federal student loans will be readily available is avoidable and unnecessary. The extension assures families that decisions can be made on the basis of what's best for their children.
